I closed the door, turned to find my younger sister peeking from the guest bedroom. She raised her eye-brow. I just shrugged and went to the kitchen. Usually, Yai leaves me alone when I don't pay her any attention. But tonight, she followed me to the kitchen.
"So?" I put some water in the kettle, switch on the stove and looked for tea bags.
"Eh hello! So what happened? Why are you home so early?", she sat at the stool and stared.
"Yai, please don't start ok"
"Start apa?"
"Jadi busybody!" At that she laughed and started eating an apple. Since I know she won't leave me alone tonight, I took out two tea cups and set them at the breakfast counter. Its mint-tea tonight for me. I need some refresher.
Less than 5 minutes later, I was pouring my heart to my sister who is 10 years younger. She nodded, she laughed. She frowned.
"So, you hmmm like him la, conclusion-nya?" I poured more tea, and shrugged again.
"Stop it Kak Long. I hate it when you do that! Cakap la elok2."
"Ntah. Suka la kot. He is nice. Gentleman. Ada lah sket, *sket jer*, sense of humour." She looked like she was happy with what I said.
She got up, gathered the cups, she washed the dishes and went back to the guest bedroom. I swear there is something about the room and Yai. That's the smallest room in the house, there is no attached bathroom unlike the other rooms in the house. Yet, she spends so much time there, reading, browsing the web... Sleeping. Every single night I have to wake her up, and ask her to go to her room upstairs before I go to bed myself. The thought of her alone downstairs freaks me out, and no alarm system in this world can put my mind at ease.
"Naik tido. I am going to bed already and I don't want to come down and wake you up!" She nodded. As I was gathering my handbag, she peeked from her room again.
"Peek-A-Boo!" I smiled, that's Yai's standard "hello". My niece loves it, she will giggle and giggle for a long time.
"Kak Long. I dun think you like him much"
"Shut up. I didn't ask for your opinion", that didn't stop her though.
"You know, whenever you come home after meeting Lee, you smile, I mean like you SMILE! You never drink tea, you were just so kenyang!"
"Yai, shut up. Go to bed" I was halfway up the stairs when she yelled.
"Kak Long. Jangan nyesal nanti!"
If only you know my sister, I was already regretting it. Bad decision. I know. But I did say yes, and his family were already making arrangement to come that weekend, with a ring.
